Oregon Trail

Modern technology has made our life easier than it was back in 1811. However, it has also made our life harder. There are many differences in technology and lifestyle then and now. Here are a few of them.

During The Oregon Trail, they walked by foot, using wagons to carry their items on the long journey. Now, we use automobiles such as cars and vans to travel different places. I took them 4-6 months just to finish the journey. Now, it will only take us less than 48 hours to travel that far. They had many problems with their wagons and often had to stop walking just to fix it. Now days, we have a tow truck to take our vehicle to automobile shops to get it repaired. One downfall however is that we have to pay gas to keep our vehicles going. They did not.

Another difference is food supply. They had to bring food with them from home or find some in the wild while they were traveling. Now, we can just stop at a restaurant or stop at a grocery store and buy some. It is much easier now to get food than it was back then.

The final difference is technology. In the past 206 years, everything has improved. You can order things online instead of having to go to there to buy it. There is phones so you can communicate faster rather than having to write a letter and wait for them to reply. We have tablets for entertainment. We have internet so we can connect with everyone around the world in an instant. Back then, you had to wait for a trading ship to come to your area to get foreign items. It was hard to communicate back then since everyone was in different places.

Now that you have a clue of the differences between the 1811 and now, you might appreciate what you have more. Although there are bad things we have now that they did not have back then like taxes, it is manageable with modern technology.
